A three-day celebration filled with coastal landscapes, expressive fashion, immersive design, and the kind of joyful human connection that cannot be staged.

Katie and Trevor’s wedding weekend unfolded across Kiawah Island as a true destination experience, photographed by Taylor English Photography for couples planning intentional, design-forward destination weddings. Their celebration was expansive, colorful, deeply personal, and centered around the people they love.
Rather than treating the wedding as a single event, every part of the weekend was designed to feel distinct. An intimate waterside rehearsal dinner gave way to a warm welcome celebration before the wedding day moved from the quiet character of a private Kiawah residence to a vibrant outdoor ceremony and tented reception at The Ocean Course.
The result was a weekend that felt polished without becoming restrained. It was beautifully considered, completely alive, and unmistakably theirs.

A poolside Rehearsal Dinner
The weekend began with dinner beside the water, where long tables were layered with blue-and-white patterned linens, delicate place settings, greenery, and candlelight.
The environment carried much of the atmosphere: sailboats crossing the marsh, late-afternoon light filtering through the trees, and guests settling into the slower rhythm of the island. Katie’s sculptural red floral gown brought a striking editorial element to the otherwise relaxed coastal setting.
The photographs move between the broader sense of place and the quieter interactions happening within it, with hands reaching across the table, children wandering between chairs, glasses raised in conversation, and the changing light as dinner continued after sunset.
A Welcome Party of Style and Connection
The following celebration brought together expressive fashion, custom paper details, cocktails, and a guest list arriving from across the country.
Rather than approaching the evening as a formal sequence of events, the focus remained on its social energy. Guests embraced, gathered in small groups, settled into conversation, and began creating the emotional landscape of the weekend before the ceremony had even arrived.
These gatherings are often where a wedding story truly begins. Photographing the welcome party allowed relationships, personalities, and family dynamics to become familiar—creating greater trust and ease before the wedding day itself.
Getting ready
Getting Ready at a Private Kiawah Island Residence
Wedding morning began inside a private island home filled with dark wood, patterned textiles, architectural details, and softly filtered window light.
Katie prepared alongside her family and closest friends in an atmosphere that moved between lively and still. There were relaxed moments together on the sofa, portraits with her bridesmaids in tonal pinks and botanical prints, and quieter frames of Katie alone before stepping into the full energy of the day.
Trevor dressed nearby in an ivory dinner jacket and black bow tie, surrounded by his family and groomsmen. The contrast between the home’s shadowed interiors and the bright coastal landscape outside created a natural visual language for the morning—intimate, textural, and quietly cinematic.

At The Ocean Course, the ceremony overlooked the marsh and golf course beneath an expansive coastal sky.
Abundant pink, coral, peach, and lavender flowers curved around the ceremony space, climbed sculptural arrangements, and lined the aisle. Patterned umbrellas and natural wooden chairs added shape without competing with the surrounding landscape.
The ceremony design was remarkable, but it never eclipsed the emotional center of the gathering. A flower girl carefully making her way down the aisle, family members greeting one another, Katie’s entrance, the expression on Trevor’s face, and the changing reactions of their guests were all equally important parts of the story.
The photographs move between intimacy and scale: vows exchanged within the flowers, hands joined during the ceremony, family seated in the fading light, and wide frames that place the celebration within the marshland beyond it.
An Ocean Course Ceremony Filled With Color

Cocktail Hour in the Coastal Light
Immediately following the ceremony, guests moved into a cocktail hour layered with playful details and relaxed seating areas.
Custom illustrations, shell motifs, floral arrangements, pink cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a personalized escort display extended the visual identity of the day. The palette remained exuberant, but every piece felt connected to the island environment.
While family and wedding-party portraits were completed nearby, cocktail hour continued around us. This allowed the photography to move constantly between structured group photographs and the less predictable moments unfolding among guests.
The finished gallery does not treat the two as opposing approaches. Formal portraits establish legacy and relationships; candid photographs reveal how those relationships actually feel.

As the light softened, Katie and Trevor stepped away briefly for portraits overlooking the marsh.
Her veil caught the wind as they walked through the open landscape, while the evening sky shifted through pale blue, gold, and deeper storm tones. These portraits carry a more editorial presence, but remain grounded in movement and interaction rather than static posing.
The scale of the environment became an active part of the photographs. Some frames bring the couple close, emphasizing expression and touch. Others allow them to become smaller within the landscape, preserving the atmosphere of Kiawah Island alongside the memory of how it felt to stand there together.
Golden-Hour Portraits Across the Kiawah Landscape

The reception tent transformed the grounds of The Ocean Course through color, pattern, and layered botanical design.
Printed linens, patterned menus, pink lampshades, sculptural floral arrangements, tropical greenery, woven chandeliers, and a hand-painted pink bar created an environment that felt transportive from every angle. Draped fabric softened the structure of the tent while allowing the marshland and changing sky to remain visible beyond it.
Photographing the finished design required both precision and restraint. Wide frames establish the full visual experience, while smaller details reveal the work embedded throughout it: illustrated paper pieces, textured linens, painted surfaces, candlelight, table numbers, shells, glassware, and florals viewed from above and below.
These photographs preserve more than individual decorative elements. Together, they show how the space was intended to feel when guests entered it.
Once the evening began, the tone shifted naturally from composed to completely unreserved.
Katie and Trevor entered beneath the woven chandeliers before moving into their first dance. Toasts brought waves of laughter and tenderness across the tables. Parent dances, cake cutting, late-night sweets, and spontaneous conversations carried the celebration forward before the dance floor fully took over.
Direct flash, ambient tent light, movement, and occasional blur helped preserve the energy rather than flatten it. The resulting photographs feel immediate and tactile: Katie’s sparkling reception dress in motion, guests leaning into one another, people singing with arms raised, flowers glowing beneath small lamps, and fleeting expressions caught between the larger events.
Film photographs were woven throughout the weekend as another layer of interpretation. Their grain, tonal shifts, and imperfect edges complement the digital work, creating photographs that feel collected rather than overly polished.
The final sequence moves from refinement into abandon without losing the visual identity of the weekend.
A Reception That Became Increasingly Unreserved
More Than a Beautiful Wedding
Katie and Trevor’s wedding was extraordinarily beautiful, but the design alone is not what made the story complete.
It was the contrast between grandeur and intimacy: an expansive ceremony landscape followed by a hand held beneath the flowers; meticulously designed tables surrounding guests caught in unguarded laughter; formal portraits beside images that happened before anyone knew the camera was there.
That balance is central to my approach.
I photograph weddings with an awareness of fashion, architecture, light, and design, but I never want aesthetic perfection to come at the expense of emotional truth. The goal is a body of work that allows you to see everything you created while still recognizing exactly how the weekend felt. Katie and Trevor’s celebration offered both in abundance.
